Economic Developer Position Requirements 2006

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Successful applicant must have:

 

Excellent oral and written communications skills;

 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, internet research, email, and general office procedures;

 

Three (3) or more years of relevant, progressively responsible work experience in education, marketing, business, or office environment;

 

Residence in or willingness to relocate to Pemiscot County;

 

Verifiable professional references; and

 

Ability to provide a writing sample and transcripts, if requested.

 

Other Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Earned bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field

Grant research and application

Program or project management

Participation in budget preparation

Economic development issues and practices

          Event planning

Other appropriate work and/or volunteer experience

 

 

On-the-job training will be provided in requisite subject areas.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPER RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPENSATION

2006

 

Responsibilities

 

The Economic Developer is an employee of the Port and reports to and works under the direction of the Port director.  During and after training, the Economic Developer performs grant research and writes grant applications, administers grant funds, manages programs and projects, assists in budget development, participates in required local, state, and Federal intergovernmental relations, responds to requests for information from economic development prospects and agencies, proactively markets industrial sites and buildings within the Port district, attends local and other meetings and conferences, participates in community development activities, plans events, reports to all governing authorities, and performs other duties as assigned.  Some travel and public speaking will be required.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Initial performance evaluation by Port director after six (6) months

Annual salary adjustment based on performance evaluation by Port director
